Fall 2010 Trend: Military

MILITARY BASE: The military motif never dies out, or maybe it is the uniform-esque that we can’t get enough of. Cadet, army, navy, aviator… are all in the stratum of military in fashion. The thing with military is, it’s very utilitarian and the core elements are so very distinctive and versatile, you see you feel military once it’s there and it can easily incorporate into a garment at the same time.

Popular too perhaps because it brings out strength and edge, plus not to mention it’s easy to pair with almost anything, try an instant update with poufy skirts and military jackets.

Here are a few little devils that I think exude the military vibe most.

GOLD AND BRONZE BUTTONS: I think that the buttons are one of the most distinctive features of a garment, think of it as the final touches of a painting. Picture this, if the delicate bronzey buttons on this Military Coat by SMYTH are replaced by giant plastic discs, changes everything doesn't it?

EPAULETTES: These come differently in fashion than in army, for one they are very very decorative. Ultimate Military Cape from Topshop.

KHAKI GREEN: AKA Military Green, enough said. Silence + Noise Pleated Ankle Roll Up Pant and Military Style Jersey from Zara.

BUCKLES: What is military without some fastening? Reiss Dree Buckle Tab Pleat Trousers and Jeffrey Campbell Boot Camp (on a side note, I bought my first pair of Jeffrey Campbell boots today, so very excited to wear them out!).

DOUBLE BREASTED: Cadet style topped off with some faux fur (faux pas no more with faux fur!), Double Breasted Jacket from Zara.

MANDARIN COLLAR: Not only is it oriental styled, thanks to the wide usage in army uniforms, mandarin collars are very fashion forward. Riley Coat from Alice by Temperley and Marc by Marc Jacobs Reversible Two-Tone Jacket.

It’s never too late to pick up a few military pieces, you never know they might be able to last… quite a while.
